You Need: A yoga mat

If we’ve ever talked about my morning routine, you know it’s not so much routine as it is intuition. You also know that any amount of time alone before everyone else wakes up is pure gold. And sometimes, that’s literally only ten minutes.

My at-home practice is some variation of a poetry book (often Mary Oliver) or spiritual text (also Mary Oliver in my opinion), coffee, and yoga. The yoga is sometimes a way-to-long-for-class child’s pose, meditation, or movement like this audio practice.

Every time I show up to my mat I need something different, because I’m different, my day is different, and I let that in itself be the practice. just. showing. up.

My day is already structured enough as it is, why make my morning ritual stiff and rigid too? The discipline comes by making the commitment to be there. What comes next is open to interpretation, intuition and flow.

If you end up having more than ten minutes and poetry is sanctuary for you too, you can find poetry/journal prompts that will connect you to that divine thread within you under Sunday Prompts. The prompt that came out yesterday (10/13) is all about discovering your “essence” using poetry, words and a photo of you/your life that you LOVE, to understand your home and personal style.

If poetry is a new-ish avenue for you and you’d like to take a walk with me, check out The Space (in)Between. A friend of mine called it “poetry for people who don’t really get poetry.” It’s down-to-earth and gets straight to the heart of things.

Have a wonderful day, and thank you for practicing with me!
