Hello friends and welcome to Nima. My name is Nicole and I am here to offer audio yoga classes to you and whoever finds themselves here. This idea was a mutual spark between myself and a dear friend who wanted to record my classes when I moved from Arkansas to Virginia, so this is a way to stay connected to past students and new ones.
I’m a 500hr yoga instructor and I’m currently in a 900hr training to become a Certified Yoga Therapist. I’m not quite sure when I started practicing yoga, I feel like it’s one of those things that just becomes your life one day and fuses with everything else. But I have been teaching for nine years and my favorite thing about yoga is that you can do the same poses, the same way, every single day, and be blessed with an entirely new practice.
My yoga mat has been both a sanctuary and a stomping ground, a dance party and a desperation and the most beautiful thing is I don’t allow pressure on my mat. When I’m home, my yoga is intuition based. And sometimes that looks like asana, reading, an eight minute child’s pose, sitting on a bolster to drink coffee and breathe, and sometimes it’s a full hour class. A home practice is not a question of the form of yoga, but the unfolding consciousness of it. The listening and connection to your mind, body and spirit.
I go to in person classes not because I want a workout or a deep stretch, I want someone to hold space for me. I want to be able to be in a shared space and fully participate, with complete permission to stay in child’s pose or savasana or shed a quiet tear or two.
Okay, a little more about what we’ll do here:
This is audio yoga and I can see how that can be…uncomfortable maybe? BUT, hear me out, maybe this can heighten your other senses. Not being able to see will heighten your ability to listen. To listen to the words and how they translate in your body; to listen TO your body. I think it will enhance your mind-body connection and require a different type of attention that we’re not used to giving ourselves. Even in an in person class, you see other people and consciously or not, you’re doing some kind of comparison.
Without the visual, you wont try and make your pose look like my pose and you’ll witness the gift of yoga in YOUR body. Which, is such a beautiful thing.
But of course, if you find you’re unsure of where to go, or what a pose is, please send me a message or search the pose name for a visual reference. But I’m very confident my cueing won’t leave you lost.
Lastly,
The audio titles will be listed with levels.
Level zero: restorative, grounded, breath work and meditation. You’ll be seated, lying down with the highest form of movement being from kneeling. This would be great for an early morning practice or late evening. Yoga in pjs.
Level one: slow moving, some standing, gentle and sweet for that ritualistic yoga practice mid morning with your coffee and journal. Yoga in flowy clothes
Level two: creative sequencing, strong and energizing and a little spicy. Probably want clothing that won’t get in your way.
Oh! and a little note on cueing. The way that I teach in person is off the mat. Meaning I don’t teach and do the poses with you, I walk around the room. So even if we were in person, unless I’m doing a tricky sequence, you won’t see me practicing with you. So I’m very confident you’ll be able to follow along with ease here as well.
WITH FULL PERMISSION TO SKIP IT! There have been so many times I put on a youtube yoga class and completely de-rail into my own thing and I fully support that. Sometimes I just need the act of pressing play to find my own rhythm.
And that is all I have for the intro. I hope to hold space for your practice very soon.
~
Nicole
